The EDN/WDC Contract that commenced for 6 months in July 2004 has finally come to an end after approximately 16 years. We thank Leon Norris and team for the long partnership that we have had and am sorry that due to contractual changes their end we will now complete this contract June 30. Firstly, we had to sadly farewell Jason Driscoll our previous CEO who left us for personal reasons in February. We thank Jason for his 6 years of service and wish him and his family well for his future.
As a result, we have restructured and we now have a new Manager of Quality, and we are delighted to welcome Geoff Oliver to this role. Geoff comes with a great deal of VET and auditing experience. Geoff has had a long association with Progressive and we are delighted to welcome him to be an even more integral part of our management team as we continue to build on the quality & compliance areas of the business.
Additionally, Jamin Feddersen is now in charge of the Operations role, and we thank him for stepping up to manage the organisation in the interim absence of the CEO until we had the restructure in place. Jamin has a passion for seeing projects and contracts managed successfully through to completion and we welcome him to the important role.
I also have great pleasure in welcoming back Bill Belson who worked for Progressive Training for 15 years before leaving for the Eastern States. Bill was previously our Senior Trainer/Assessor who undertook many other roles during his time with us. We look forward to working together again and continuing to build on our 45 years of friendship. Bill says, “I’m Back”, and I say the same now that I have returned to the CEO role.
It is with some sadness that we wish David Sims farewell, as he leaves us to live in Canada. David has been instrumental in heading up our Glass & Glazing team in Perth and we wish him our very best wishes as he starts a new phase of his life. Thank you, David for your valuable contribution, we will miss you.
We also farewell Tanja Parry, who is leaving to take up a role with Joblink and we wish her every success as she leaves us.
We also say thank you and farewell to Ree Dahmen, who has been a wonderful and loyal asset to our finance team. Ree is retiring and looking forward to travelling Australia in their caravan as far as Covid permits.
We welcome to the Glass & Glazing team Nathan McCain and Adrian Croft. We look forward to your contributions in this important area of our organisation.
I am looking forward to working with our existing and new Team in Geraldton, Burswood and Broome. There are some exciting changes coming to Perth, but I will leave that for the next Newsline.
Importantly, now we look forward to working together to serve our clients who continue to choose Progressive Training to provide Vocational Education and Training and consultancy to meet their needs.
Geoff Feddersen
CEO
Progressive Training.

Joblink Midwest
It’s been a quieter year with the Workforce Development Centre (WDC) contract through Joblink Midwest. Career workshops were delivered by Progressive Training this year to schools and education facilities throughout the Midwest including Nagle Catholic College and Champion Bay Senior High School, Central Regional TAFE, and the Transition to Work program run through Joblink Midwest.
It was great to be part of Geraldton’s Jobs Fair this year providing career advice, and networking with jobseekers, employers and employment services.

Glass & Glazing
The Glass and glazing side of the business has been going very well and keeping extremely busy. We have recently had a new trainer/assessor join our team Nathan McCann his previous experience has been working at Walshs Glass for over 10 years and targets the glass processing side of our training. Over the past few months we have signed off 5 students whom have completed their Cert III in glass and glazing as well as signing up 2 new students into our program. More recently we have just completed a visit down south to Albany and Denmark to carry out some training with our students, and coming up in the next month we are carrying out a visit to Geraldton again to carryout training with our students.

Progressive Training Broome
With Indigenous communities still closed due to Covid, 2021 got off to a slow start. However, as restrictions eased, clients began filtering back into town.
In addition, there have been staff changes at the referral agency, (Nirrumbuk Employment Services)

At present Broome office has 10 clients participating in the SEE Program. Four of whom have been referred since the beginning of April.

Negotiations with Balgo community for remote participation in the SEE program, which began at the onset of the wet season, are ongoing.

New Staff

I’m Back!
After 3 years away, living in NSW, I have returned to the best state in Australia and to the best place I have ever worked - Progressive Training, Western Australia.
It was for family reasons that I went east but am very happy to now be back in Geraldton and back working with the team at Progressive Training. There are a few new faces that have come on the scene since I left but what hasn’t changed is the great team spirit and sense of comradery, this is one of the things I really missed.
Previously I was involved in training delivery and resource development for:

Certificate IV in Training and Assessment

Safety Rep. Training

Facilitating a range of workshops on various topics

Writing and development of Training Manuals on plant and equipment

Writing and development of Training Manuals and assessments for Glass & Glazing

For me now the focus is predominantly on resource review and upgrading for our Glass and Glazing resources. No doubt the role will also include all other duties at CEO’s discretion (as is often joked about here at Progressive Training – the unwritten rule in our job descriptions). For me though, I am especially happy to be back because I get to work with my lifelong friend of 45 years, and CEO of Progressive Training – Geoff Feddersen.

Hi!
I'm Kylie and I am the current trainer for the Certificate 111 in Early Education care. I have many years of experience in the early education and care sector working across all age groups and in different early years settings. I have worked as an educator, early childhood teacher and also as a centre manager. I’ve worked with children from varying backgrounds and cultures and also spent several years teaching English as a second language to both children and adults. My passion however is with the little ones and it's great to be able to share this passion and knowledge with up and coming enthusiastic educators!
In my spare time I like to relax with my family, travel and spend as much time in the great outdoors as possible!

Geoff Oliver – Manager Quality
I have been working with Progressive Training for close to 15 years as a trainer (the old TAE and Auditing qualifications) and as a consultant and internal auditor, so I am really excited to now be an ‘official’ part of the team working to ensure we meet our obligations to the regulator and our clients. My background is in Film & Television, starting in television when it was just B&W (yes I am getting on!) and then starting my own production company producing Corporate Video’s, TV Commercials and documentaries.
This took me to Singapore in the 90’s where I shot throughout Asia and in the US.
20 years ago I started training at TAFE where I trained students from Certificate III all the way to Advanced Diploma in Media where the students made films. Fifteen years ago I moved into the quality area and have since been offering consultancy services to RTO’s delivering a range of programs from security to mining to aged care and many in between.
I have found my work making Corporate Videos has prepared me well for this role as I have filmed in a great variety of workplaces. My wife is a golf widow as I do enjoy playing golf, the most frustrating yet exhilarating sport (when you get it right).
Progressive Training is a great RTO and I look forward to working with everyone in providing the best quality training to our clients.

VET in Schools
The Leadership program is in full swing at Leeming Senior High School. Welcome to Donna Grida who is taking over from Louisa who is taking a well-earned break. The course is providing an excellent pathway for students to increase their confidence and literacy abilities as demonstrated through their workbooks.
This is in no small part due to the passion of the teachers delivering the course. We now have been given permission from South Central TAFE to continue to deliver the updated qualification and process for putting it on scope has commenced.

From the CEO - Newsline December 2020

https://www.progressivetraining.com.au/newsline/from-the-ceo-newsline-december-2020

https://www.progressivetraining.com.au/newsline/from-the-ceo-newsline-december-2020#comments

Industry updates

Welcome everyone to Progressive Training’s final Newsline for 2020.With only three weeks until Christmas and only four weeks until we’re able to wave goodbye to what has been a tumultuous 2020 for many, I wanted to take this opportunity to focus on some of the real positives Progressive Training, as an organisation, have experienced this year.First and foremost, we have had the absolute pleasure of welcoming to our team, four new staff: Celeste Douglas, Tanja Parry, Cra [...]

Welcome everyone to Progressive Training’s final Newsline for 2020.

With only three weeks until Christmas and only four weeks until we’re able to wave goodbye to what has been a tumultuous 2020 for many, I wanted to take this opportunity to focus on some of the real positives Progressive Training, as an organisation, have experienced this year.

First and foremost, we have had the absolute pleasure of welcoming to our team, four new staff: Celeste Douglas, Tanja Parry, Craig Stanley and Kylie Quinonez. Tanja has taken over the role of Client Services Coordinator in our Geraldton office, Craig is the Lead Trainer for the Skills through Education and Employment Program (SEE Program) in Broome, Celeste has been employed as the Trainer/Assessor for the Certificate III in Early childhood education and care qualification and Kylie has come on board to assist in the resource review and conduct of the Certificate III in Early childhood education and care. All four have been wonderful additions to our team and I would like to publicly welcome them all and thank them for the positive impact they have had already. Tanja and Craig have provided a little ‘get to know you’ spiel below:

New Staff

Tanja Parry

I am Tanja (yes, Tanja with a J not an I or a Y :D) and I am originally from Germany.
I first visited Australia in 2007 and it was love at first sight; I immigrated to Australia in 2014 and have loved travelling through WA with my husband, having spent a couple of years in rural Northern WA and currently residing in Geraldton.
My background lies in childcare, however, I was ready for a career change and I am very lucky to have been given the opportunity to become part of the Progressive Training team, working as the receptionist/administration assistant whilst taking on the Cert III in Business.
I love photography, painting, taking my dogs for walks along the beach as well as diving and simply enjoying the stunning scenery Australia has to offer.

Craig Stanley

Hello. I’m Craig. I run Progressive Training’s Broome office.
A qualified high school teacher, I have been working in Education in one form or another since 2004 and have spent most of that time in non-mainstream areas such as teaching students, (Both children and adults) with challenges to learning, including special needs, indigenous, immigrants and refugees.
Before becoming a teacher, I worked in IT support. I have also lived in Canada and Botswana, as well as a number of remote Indigenous communities in Western Australia and The Northern Territory. These experiences have exposed me to many different cultures and ways of life and allow me to better understand the people whom I teach.
What happens in Broome?
The onset of COVID 19 saw many Aboriginal communities placed in Lock down. This in turn meant that many of our clients were unable to attend. As this happened early in my tenure, I was able to acclimatise to the new position in my own time. This proved to be an invaluable opportunity.
With the relaxing of COVID 19 restrictions, current and potential clients began returning to Broome. Broome Regional Aboriginal Medical Service, (BRAMS) held a barbeque lunch to welcome patrons back into town. Clients and I represented Progressive Training at this event. We have since gained several new clients, partly due to this event.

Glass and Glazing
Despite the heavy travel restrictions we have seen throughout the year, and the changes to the economic environment that 2020 has brought with it, Progressive Training have continued providing quality training and assessment in the Glass and Glazing space. With Apprentices located from Broome in WA’s North to Albany and Demark in WA’s South (and everywhere in between), this year we have had the pleasure of both signing off and signing up, numerous Apprentices in their Certificate III in Glass and Glazing qualifications. With the intake this year, 2021 will remain very busy for our Perth based Trainer/Assessors.
Our Training and Assessment delivery model, in which our Trainers visit each Apprentice either on site or at their place of employment to provide training and assessment, has continued to win favour amongst our clients. Every Apprentice is provided personalised training and is assessed in their respective places of work using the machines and documentation the Apprentices will use/see daily, adding substantial contextualisation to their training.
Below are just a few of the success stories of 2020:

Pound Glass & Glazing (South Bunbury) – Progressive Training welcomed Jorja from Pound Glass and Glazing in November. Celeste comes to us with a myriad of experience in many areas and has proven to be a fantastic addition to this pillar of Progressive Training’s services. Along with our new Trainer/Assessor, we have also welcomed Kylie Quinonez to our team. Kylie was previously the Centre Manger at Early Explorers Childcare Centre in Geraldton and has been instrumental in resource review and development in the Childcare space.
During 2020 quality training has remained strong and we are excited to continue to see sign offs and sign ups in the childcare space.
Bambi Child Care Centre – Congratulations Madi! As at the commencement of the School year in 2021, Progressive Training has been engaged to provide auspicing services for the delivery of; 52773WA Certificate I in Leadership and the CHC30113 Certificate III in Early childhood education and care, with several Schools in the Perth Metro region.
Pictured below is CEO Jason Driscoll, waiting to engage VET Coordinators at the VET and Workplace Learning School Staff Development Day. This event was held at the Department of Education Statewide Services Centre on the 23rd Nov and provided an opportunity for VET Coordinators representing over 100 Schools to engage with RTO’s on the Preferred Provider Panel. Despite the hot weather that day, many of the School representatives made time to speak with us and all-in-all it was a fantastic day!

SEE Program - Broome
As we all know, COVID 19 has had an impact on a lot of businesses right across the Nation. Border restrictions imposed as part of the McGowen Governments roadmap to recovery, have meant many of our indigenous cohort have been unable to attend regular training within the Broome CBD. Heading into the end of 2020, we are starting to see numbers growing. This increase in numbers has been a direct result of our new Trainer/Assessor, Craig Stanley, who has taken to the program like a duck to water. At this stage, we are ready, with doors open to welcome any/all eligible participants.
Staff PD
Here at Progressive Training our mission is to: ‘Facilitate in partnership, the knowledge, skills and attitudes that establish a culture of Training from Within’. … and what better way to emulate that than to upskill our own staff in the qualifications we deliver. As the CEO, I need to ensure our staff continue to develop and as a Trainer/Assessor myself, I need to remain current within both VET and Industry… welcome to How to operate and Maintain a 4WD. After playing part of participant so I could be qualified in this Unit of Competency, I facilitated a couple of courses later in the year, One of which that saw our Compliance Officer, Steve Meeny, then play part of participant. After a couple of months awaiting a result, we finally have one and it is the outcome we were all aiming to achieve… 7 years of re-registration! Whilst the Company Directors have offered congratulations and thanks in both this edition of Newsline and via Progressive’s Facebook Page to those who have helped and contributed to this outcome, as the CEO, an achievement of this magnitude can’t go past without some personal acknowledgments from myself.

I would like to take the opportunity to firstly thank our Directors, Kris and Geoff Feddersen. Their faith, trust, support and confidence in all the Progressive team has be justified with Progressive obtaining a 7-year continuation. Next on the list is all our staff. We have been blessed with the right mix of dedicated people wanting only the best for our clients, the organisation and to provide a conduit for quality training. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that this fantastic outcome was due to a consolidated team effort and the work everyone put in, is to be commended. A heartfelt thank you to; Steve Meeny (Compliance), Sue Backshall (Business Development), Casey Taylor (Client Services), Laurice Dahmen (Finance), Stacey Ackley (I.T. Support), David Sims and Aidan Feddersen (Glass and Glazing – Perth) and Amanda Dawson (Child Care). It is a pleasure to be working alongside you all and I thank you for all that you’ve done.
I would like to thank our Trainers who hold Memorandum of Understandings with Progressive Training. Your continued assistance in responding to our compliance requests is greatly appreciated. I do understand that given the significant changes in the VET sector over the last couple of years (changes to Training Packages / Upgrade to TAE40116 etc.), that it may feel like we are contacting you every other day, but as we can see now, it has all paid off with a successful re-registration. I thank you all for your continued support and your contributions to the organisation.
I would also like to offer a special thank you to Mr. Geoff Oliver from Compass Support. Geoff has supported the Progressive Team so much over the years with his wealth of knowledge regarding everything VET. Geoff’s advice, assistance and guidance has been invaluable, and has been relied upon regularly, particularly through audits. Geoff… On behalf of the Progressive Team, thank you for all you have contributed.
Congratulations All! … Seven Years! …Well Done!

WorkSafe Audits – Successful!
The next significant achievements I’d like to acknowledge are, at Chris Nalder (Employment Training Solutions – Operating out of Newman) and David Clune (Grace Training and Operations – Operating out of South Hedland). Both Chris and Dave are Trainers who hold MOU’s with Progressive and who were both subject to scheduled WorkSafe Audits recently... once again, we’re delighted to say that both Trainer / Assessors came through fully compliant and have already received their official notification from WorkSafe. Congratulations guys! Looking forward to receiving continued compliant assessment instruments for a long time to come.

Winning Tender – Progressive Training accepted onto state panel to deliver VET in Schools!
Next on the list of positive outcomes for Progressive Training is the successful Tender bid to be placed on the provider list for the delivery of VET in secondary schools. Progressive Training were successful in gaining a place on the panel and are now able to, upon request, engage with State Schools in the Kimberley, Midwest and Wheatbelt regions of W.A. until December 2021. The chance to provide quality products for the delivery of accredited training is exciting and we are very much looking forward to working with schools in all three regions.

Glass and Glazing – Apprentice of the Year (State and National)!
What a great quarter… the accolades just keep coming! Congratulations to Beau Van De Sande and his employer, Glass Co. Metro. The hard work our dedicated team put in throughout 2017 has meant we have hit the ground running in 2018 and are positioned for a very busy and exciting year. My Newsline articles throughout last year highlighted the huge change in direction Progressive Training has taken, delving into Glass and Glazing, Childcare, Skills through Employment and Education Program (SEE), whilst still maintaining a focus on the existing training we’ve had on offer over previous years, such as High Risk Licences and Business Services courses. In this first edition, I’d like to touch on those new ventures with an overview of how we have commenced 2018.

MSF30413 Certificate III in Glass and Glazing has gained even more momentum in 2018, with Progressive Training now having more than 20 businesses on board in the Perth Metro and Southwest WA regions as well as 3 businesses locally in Geraldton. Positives in this space include several apprentices having been signed off this year already… now being trade qualified and Progressive Training heading up the delivery of the AS1288 Standards package in conjunction with the Australian Glass and Glazing Association (AGGA). The delivery of the AS1288 workshop, which has already been run once and is scheduled to be run at least two more times, contributes to the AGGA Accredited Company Program and Progressive Training are certainly proud to be associated with a program that is designed to demonstrate the skills, experience and quality of organisations within the Glass and Glazing industry.

CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care has seen its first public course being conducted out of our Geraldton office this year and although it’s early days, it is running very well. With an enterprise training arrangement in place with Early Explorers Learning Centre (EELC), we have the convenience of being able to cater for the required 120 hours of work placement, ‘in-house’, meaning we’re able to offer greater options to prospective participants. I’d like to acknowledge Amanda Dawson, who after recently completing her Certificate IV in TAE late last year, has stepped into the role of Childcare Trainer and is doing a wonderful job.

The SEE Program – Wow! The SEE program in Broome has really moved forward in 2018 and to give credit where credit is due, I would like to acknowledge the work of Jamin Feddersen who has taken over as the Lead SEE Trainer, with assistance from a new staff member, Kristie Marinko, who I will introduce shortly. The great work that has been achieved this year has resulted in full classes and the need to go and purchase a small bus to keep up with participant numbers attending the program. In a very short time with the new team of Jamin and Kristie, we have seen some fantastic results!

As has been the case over the last few Newsline’s, I once again have the pleasure of introducing new staff members… I’m very happy to welcome Casey Taylor and Kristie Marinko to the Progressive Family. Casey is our new Client Services Coordinator in Geraldton and comes to us with a great deal of experience. Casey’s skill set includes; Administration, Childcare and Finance to name a few. Part of Casey’s role will also involve taking the reins from Shelby, as Shelby starts a new journey in her life with baby Scarlett being welcomed to the world on the 2nd April!!
Kristie has been with us since February, working out of the Broome office, and has really been a breath of fresh air, providing vital administrative support to the SEE Program. Casey and Kristie have put a few words together as an introduction, so I won’t steal any more of their thunder, but on behalf of the Progressive team, a big welcome, we’re all looking forward to working with you and I’m sure you’ll both excel in your new roles.
With the welcoming of new staff, we also sadly say farewell to one of the absolute stalwarts of Progressive Training… Bill Belson. Bill has moved east to be closer to family (which has left some large shoes to fill). Those of you who are familiar with our Facebook page would have seen the heartfelt video message Geoff Feddersen posted for Bill, but to reiterate Geoff’s sentiments, Bill will be sorely missed and as all of us at Progressive know, the value of family is second to none. From me, on behalf of all at Progressive, we wish Bill and Elaine every happiness for the future.

From the CEO, I look forward to updating you next quarter with what I am sure will be more good news stories.

Jason Driscoll

Introducing New Staff Members

https://www.progressivetraining.com.au/newsline/introducing-new-staff-members3871402

https://www.progressivetraining.com.au/newsline/introducing-new-staff-members3871402#comments

Staff

We would like to welcome two new staff members to the Progressive Training team, Kristie Marinko and Casey Taylor. I come to Progressive Training with a background in administration, payroll & accounts, and childcare (some time ago now!).
After high school I completed my Diploma of Children’s Services and went on to work in an Out of School Hours Centre for a year and a half. There I got to work closely with the children and build some really great bonds. The centre I worked for then opened a new full time childcare centre, and I was presented with the opportunity to run their Nursery for a year! It was a very exciting time, getting to watch all those babies grow and develop and see their personalities come out! As time progressed, whilst I loved childcare, I found that I had a passion for the administration side of my role, so I left to pursue a career in admin.
I was then lucky enough to be given a chance at a local car dealership where I started out as an admin assistant and within 6 months I had worked my way up to become the accounts and payroll clerk. It was there that I was able to learn and gain valuable experience in all aspects of administration, payroll & accounts, and client relations.
After working with them for the last 8 years, I felt it was time to try my skills with something new and challenging. I then found myself being offered a position at Progressive and I jumped at the opportunity. I look forward to expanding on my skill set and working with the Progressive team to achieve our goals!
Casey

Update from Broome

https://www.progressivetraining.com.au/newsline/update-from-broome

https://www.progressivetraining.com.au/newsline/update-from-broome#comments

Broome

(Participants in the SEE Program engaging in the BSBITU101 – Operate a personal computer Unit of Competency)Three months ago, I moved to Broome to take on the position of Lead Trainer for the SEE Program (Skills through Education and Employment). It has been exciting and fulfilling knowing I’ve been instrumental in building the program from what was 1-2 clients / one day per week to averaging 6 -10 per day, every day. We have enrolled our clients into Certificate I in Leadership and we started off with the BSBITU101 unit – Operate a Personal Computer. As of now we have just had our first completion of that unit and we are enrolling that client into their second unit. Since commencing with this program, I have had some challenges mainly due to the rapid growth of the participant numbers and the necessity to maintain an engaging environment. Through hard work and the odd cyclone, I’ve managed to maintain consistent numbers. We are at the point now I need a small bus to pick up the number of participants attending the program on a regular basis! I’ve also been fortunate to have had Kristie join the team, because with Kristie managing the admin side, I get to focus on the delivery of some quality training.

Jamin Feddersen

Introducing the newest edition to the Progressive Training fleet!
