NEWSLINE - December 2017

Picture
With Christmas just around the corner, it is time for Progressive Training’s last Newsline article for the year, and what a year it has been…

2017 has seen a significant shift in direction for Progressive Training. This directional shift has bought with it a few challenges, but in the main, has produced very positive results and has well and truly set Progressive Training up for a great start to 2018. This could not have been achieved without the dedicated and professional team we have on board and I’d like to publicly thank all our Staff and Contractors (new and not-so-new) for their efforts this year. Through your combined efforts, you have made it possible to look back at 2017 with a smile and look forward to a successful 2018 with an even bigger smile.

Introducing New Staff Members

It’s fantastic that Progressive Training once again are able to introduce new team members, having employed more staff since the last edition…

Mitchell Heffernen, Laurice Dahmen and Mal Crawford have started with Progressive since we published the last Newsline and it is an absolute pleasure to have them on board. Mitchell comes to us with a wealth of Glass and Glazing experience and in the short time he has been with us, has already become an integral part of the
Progressive team.

Mitchell is responsible for the delivery of training and assessment for the Certificate III in Glass and Glazing with a focus on the processing stream. Mitchell is not only Trade and TAE qualified, but has numerous other qualifications that he is able to access from his tool box of experience, specifically in Management and Finance.

Laurice is our newest new team member, having started with Progressive in the last few weeks. Laurice or ‘Re’ as she prefers to be called, will be working with us in a part-time capacity and will be assisting by wearing two hats… Finance and Administration. I won’t steal Re’s thunder by explaining her background as she has been kind enough to put a few words together for our final Newsline edition as an introduction.

Mal Crawford is Progressive Training’s ‘foot on the ground’ in the eastern states. Mal started with Progressive Training in October this year and has taken up a position with Brindabella Christian College in Canberra, as the Human Resources Admin Support. Whilst Mal is geographically separated from us, he is very much a valued member of the team and we appreciate all he is doing. So, to Re, Mitchell and Mal, it is wonderful to have you on board with us and we are all very much looking forward to working with you.

Changes for Progressive

10/12/2017

2017 has seen a big change in direction for Progressive and to sum up the year in a few words really isn’t doing justice to the time the staff have put in.

This year we have managed to open, not only our office in Broome, to support the Skills for Education and Employment Program (SEE Program), but we have managed to lease and refurbish a premises in Perth that will allow for the facilitation of various types of training. The tireless work of our Company Directors; Geoff and Kris Feddersen have seen an extremely conveniently placed building in Burswood, transform into what will now become our firm base for the group training of Glass and Glazing apprentices. The building also has the facilities to double as a training / learning centre for other ventures such as the AS1288 Standard presentation that Progressive Training will be facilitating in conjunction with AGGA (Australian Glass and Glazing Association), set to commence early next year.  With a dedicated workshop space, office space and training room ready to go for 2018, we will be able to look at broadening our horizons and getting back to what Progressive once was able to offer our clients, which is access to quality training facilities in the Perth Metropolitan area.

As we wave goodbye to the financial year and move at lightning speed into the next, I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking; “Where has the first half of the year gone?” It has been all systems ‘Go’ at Progressive Training over the last few months, mainly due to a new venture in the Kimberley region and an increase in activity on the Glass and Glazing front in the Perth Metro region…

Progressive Training has seen its horizon broaden even further with the opening of our new office and ‘Learning Centre’ on the 3rd July 2017 in Broome. The new office will be dedicated to the facilitation of the Skills through Education and Employment (SEE) Program in the Kimberley region. Whilst this contract isn’t new to Progressive Training, it will be the first time we have taken this on as a solo venture. In previous years (2013-2016), Progressive Training worked closely with Kimberley Group Training (KGT), who lead the way and did a fantastic job, however…  With a new contract, come changes in delivery and structure, so the 2017-2020 period will now see Progressive Training taking the lead for the facilitation of the SEE program.

With the opening of a new office, comes new Progressive Training staff, so I would like to offer a big welcome to John (Jack) Chalmers and Mary Zbierski-West.  Jack and Mary will be the driving force in the delivery of the SEE Program and we are fortunate that both Jack and Mary have come to us from KGT with a combined, nearly eight years’ experience with the SEE Program.  The SEE Program also has a new direction this year in that, 2017 will see accredited training being delivered for the first time.

The first half of 2017 has been a very busy start for me. Working in a training role for the first time has also been a big learning experience. The support from everyone at Progressive Training has been welcome considering this is my first job as a trainer and assessor, lots to learn.

Training in Cert III Glass and Glazing is progressing well, I am getting great feedback from employers and their apprentices. Employers are happy that we are providing regular training and are seeing improvements in their skills.
