BHP Billiton Project, Port Hedland

Over that past four months I’ve been working on a number of projects at Port Hedland.
The majority of the projects are focused in the electrical technical training area in meeting BHP Billiton’s requirements under the Mines Safety & Inspection Act.
These include:
• HV Switching Operator Levels 1, 2 & 3.
• Substation Safety & Arc Flash
• Statutory requirements for Electrical Supervisors
• Electrical Welding
• Electrical Induction
• Electrical Safety Observer
• Low Voltage Safety Procedures
There are a number of other packages that relate to plant equipment or familiarisation. These include Electrical Motors, Earth Continuity Relays and Motorised Circuit Breaker operations.
The purpose of the packages is to give continuity of the delivery of the training. This is done by producing an easy to follow set of Powerpoint slides accompanied with a set of participant notes as well as Presenter notes and assessment tools.

The work, at times, has been challenging in that it’s been a while since I’ve worked in an electrical section, but it’s amazing how things come back to the old dog.

The majority of the projects are in the draft stage. The next step in this process is for Bill Belson to head off to Port Hedland to provide support and mentoring to the site training whilst they deliver and review the content of the packages.
