A little word from the Manager Training Operations

You would all be aware that we recently achieved re-registration for another five (5) years from the national regulator, ASQA.  We are also happy to say that we have also been given approval by ASQA to transition from the old Resources and Infrastructure Training Package, RII09, to the new RII training package.  For all involved in training and assessing in the resource industry, it will mean some significant changes.

What does this mean?
Some of the changes include -
Units of Competency now include ‘Performance Evidence’ instead of Required Skills and Critical Aspects. Required Knowledge also has changed its name to ‘Knowledge Evidence’.

Another important change to note is within the Performance Evidence.  It is now necessary for this assessment to be conducted “… safely, effectively and efficiently meeting the required outcomes on a minimum of three (3) separate occasions”.  This is a standard change throughout all UoC’s of the new RII training package.

For UoC’s deemed non equivalent there are some significant changes. Take a look at www.Training.gov.au to see for yourself.  Type in a Unit of Competency, for example RIIMPO311A Conduct haul truck operations, and take a look at the differences.  The first thing you may notice is that this UoC will not exist once the RII09 training package is superseded.  There will be three (3) separate units replacing this one unit:
·         RIIMPO336D Conduct belly dump truck operations
·         RIIMPO337D Conduct articulated haul truck operations
·         RIIMPO338D Conduct rigid haul truck operations

Assessment Conditions now stipulate assessors are to demonstrate the skills and knowledge through a number of years of current and continuous work in the industry sector prior to assessing.  It is very important to read this section because as an assessor, you may require up to five (5) years of experience before you can assess against a particular unit.

Times are changing in the resources industry and so must we if we are to remain a quality training organisation. So please give us a call at Progressive Training if you would like to discuss this process and how we are going about these changes.
