Christmas Island

In August Geoff headed off to Christmas Island to conduct an audit for the Department of Training and Workforce Development.

Christmas Island is a natural wonder - a remote tropical island famous for its unique red crabs, robber crabs and spectacular bird life. It is an Australian Territory which lies way out in the Indian Ocean 2,600 kilometers northwest of Perth and 500 kilometers south of Indonesia's capital Jakarta.

The Island is 135 square kilometers in area with 73 kilometers of rugged limestone coastline fringed by a narrow coral reef that drops away very steeply to the ocean depths. Two thirds of the island is national park with majestic rain forests, bountiful marine life and stunning land and seascapes.

Italo Amato from the Department willingly and very capably, showed off his tour guiding skills to Geoff, with trips around the island and a running commentary of the history and special island wonders.
One of those wonders included an introduction to the extraordinary robber crabs, the biggest land crustacean on
earth that live to be 50-70 years of age. Robber crabs have exceptional climbing ability and will obsessively pick up and carry off foreign items they may come across and are well known for stealing shiny items such as pots and silver ware from camps and properties.

The eating, shopping and sunsets were some of the additional highlights during this visit.....Oh!!!...did he mention
that he was there to work? In August Geoff headed off to Christmas Island to conduct an audit for the Department of Training and Workforce Development.

Guess somebody has to do the tough jobs :-)
Geoff
