I have just returned from a wonderful five week holiday in Europe where I spent my time enjoying the Netherlands, the magnificent scenery of the Rhine and Moselle rivers and the history and architecture of Germany and France. The Bavarian area of Germany is something else! Hope you enjoy the few photos (of the more than 1200 that I took!) that have been included in this issue.
The team here did a magnificent job of keeping everything in perfect running order while I was away and I thank each and every team member for their contribution. Plans are underway for our Management Team meeting to be held mid-November – this meeting will concentrate on our plans and targets for 2014 and beyond. Our internal audit will also occur early in November.
The new Minister for Industry is the Hon Ian Macfarlane and the Parliamentary Secretary for the Minister for Industry is the Hon Bob Baldwin. The Minister for Education and the Leader of the House is the Hon Christopher Pyne, the Minister for Employment and Leader of the Government in the Senate is Senator the Hon Eric Abetz. It will be interesting to see the developments in the VET sector over coming months as funding priorities wax and wane!
I will attend the Australian Council for Private Education and Training (ACPET) forum in Perth on October 18 to hear from key speakers and provide input to the development of education and training policy in Western Australia as the VET market continues to change to reflect the requirements of today’s workplaces.
Client contact remains strong and it is very pleasing to see that the resources industry traineeship lead by BHP Billiton and facilitated by Progressive Training (WA) Pty Ltd continues to gain momentum with the commencement of a fourth intake, now bringing participant numbers to 32 trainees.
As you will see in the pages to follow, Progressive Training’s reputation of maintaining a varied schedule of activities continues to keep us busy as we acknowledge further apprentice completions in the glass and glazing industry, commence a new Federal Government Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) contract in partnership with Kimberley Group Training, and commence delivery of training programs to key clients as a result of successfully gaining National Workforce Development Funding.
At the end of August we said goodbye to our Receptionist/Client Service Officer, Linda Chalwell and wish her well as she begins a new career opportunity in Perth.
In terms of consolidating our business focus and operations we have taken the decision to close the Perth Office, effective at the end of November. All services continue to be available from our Head Office located in Geraldton and we welcome all enquiries relating to consultancy, training options and course delivery.
‘Til next time……
Jenny Rolston
