Regional World Skills Competition - Electrical Trades

On Friday 16th October 2015, Geoff Feddersen from Progressive Training participated as an Industry Judge for the World Skills Electrical Trades Regional Competition held at Durack Institute of Technology.
 
The competition was a high pressure situation with competitors only being given a limited amount of time to complete a project that included the installation of 3 x Final Sub Circuits (Power, Lights & DOL Motor/Pump) via the use of several wiring systems including Steel Conduit, PVC Conduit, Corrugated Conduit, 50mm x 50mm Duct, 16mm x 25mm Duct as per provided plans. All wiring, connections and enclosures including a 11 Pole load centre as the Distribution Board were to be installed to set dimension tolerances while meeting AS/NZS and Local Compliance.

A number of industry representatives and employers came down to take a look and to support the competing apprentices.  All competitors accounted for themselves very well and represented their respective Employers suitably. As expected, the pressure caused some minor mistakes and valuable time to be wasted during the installation activities resulting in several non-completions of the project, but regardless, all work installed was to an exceptionally high standard from all parties involved. The podium is detailed below and we congratulate all participants who were selected for this event.
