The last few months for Josh have included lots of Workforce Development Centre (WDC) workshops, updates to our website, continual resource development, Excel training and the unique opportunity of getting to ride a ship into port.
Workforce Development Centre
Through Joblink Midwest and the Workforce Development Centre (WDC) we have been able to build employability skills into a massive range of students in the Geraldton and surrounding areas. One of the highlights for Josh has been the recently completed Future Moves project at Nagle Catholic College where Josh got to meet with all the year 10 classes for 8 sessions and introduce them to a range of tools and information that will no doubt help them in their process of working out what they want to do for a career and how to get there. Another of Josh’s favourite sessions is the Mock Interviews which we recently conducted at Geraldton Senior College. This is an opportunity Josh wishes he had when he was in school where we ask the students what job they would like to apply for and then interview them for that position. The feedback from these sessions is always very positive.
Excel
Progressive Training now offers an Intermediate course in Microsoft Excel. The course is based on the 2010 version of the software but the skills can easily be transferred to 2007 & 2013 editions. Some of the topics covered in the 4 hour session include:
• Text-to-columns
• Formulas & Functions
• Absolute & 3D Referencing
• The IF Function
• Conditional Formatting
• Data Validation
• Sorting & Filtering
• Pivot Tables

While not everyone may notice all the changes that have recently gone into the Progressive Training website, a lot of work has been going on behind the scenes. Aside from general tidying up and re-organising content, we have added a Partner Login portal where all of our partners can download the assessment tools for the courses they present. This was implemented as a way to make sure only the most current documents are being used and so that the trainers have access to them from wherever they are, even on their mobile devices!
A change you may have noticed is the addition of Consultancy to our menu. Pages have been added to provide information on the consultancy services we offer including RTO Partnering, Resource Development and Systems Auditing. Ship into Port
As a benefit of being a part of the team to develop and deliver the general inductions for Geraldton Port Authority, Bill Belson and Josh got the opportunity to ride out on a pilot vessel, climb the side of a ship and ride it back into port. It was an amazing experience and you can see footage of it on Youtube by searching for “Ship into Port Timelapse”.
